Abidin Dino
Poster
April 2020

On an earlier project, I invested in the poems sent between writer Nazım Hikmet and painter Abidin Dino where Nazım asks: “Can you paint me a picture of happiness, Abidin?”. However, while reading a later essay by Dino, I noticed Dino had an alternative answer to the question.

Using this starting point, I rearranged selected passages from Dino’s books Faces, and Hands to a series of posters. As they are exhibited in the streets of Istanbul and Providence, the poster series amplify Dino’s writings by reillusturating them and bringing them to the public eye.

Since the English translations of the two books are not available, the posters aim to bring the genious of Dino to a new English speaking audience.

Abidin Poster Series was done for a three week assignment for the course Design Studio II  taught by Paul Souellis during Spring 2020 for the Graphic Design department at Rhode Island School of Design.
